Mika Sipponen awarded with ERC Startup grant

Mika Sipponen, Stockholm University, is awarded with the prestigious European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant for his research on using lignin as building block for recyclable materials.

Mika Sipponen, assistant professor at Stockholm University, receive the grant of EUR 1.5 million for his project “Circular lignin materials from well-defined functional building blocks (CIRCULIG)”. 

“I am confident to build this new team to develop these materials that have attractive properties for example as catalysts and reversible adhesives”, says Mika Sipponen to su.se.

The ERC grant is awarded to excellent younger scientists, who have 2 to 7 years’ experience after their PhDs, to launch their own projects, form their teams and pursue their most promising ideas. Of nearly 3 000 applications 408 was granted, of which 12 in Sweden.
