Göran Sandberg has received an honorary doctorate from KTH Royal Institute of Technology  for his pivotal role in shaping Swedish research policy and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.

During his time as executive board member of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, Sandberg played a key role in launching WWSC and contributed significantly to the centre’s development through his long-standing service on the WWSC Board. He has also played key roles in several other of Sweden’s most significant research initiatives such as WASP AI, WACQT, and SciLifeLab.

The nomination highlights his exceptional ability to identify critical research areas, build bridges between academia and industry, and promote cross-sector collaboration.

Sandberg himself sees the availability of expertise as the biggest challenge facing Swedish research:
“It doesn’t matter if you come from Karesuando or Timbuktu – if you want to do research at a Swedish university, you should be able to do it. The world is full of talent and we need to attract it to Sweden,” says Sandberg to kth.se.
